The Osun Government says it has earmarked N11.5 billion for the education sector in the state for 2018.
Mr Kolawole Omotunde-Young, the State Commissioner for education disclosed this during the budget defence of the Ministry at the House of Assembly on Thursday in Osogbo.
Omotunde-Young said that while the Ministry was targeting N1.8billion as revenue, it would spend N5.1 billion on capital projects.
He added that the Ministry had also earmarked N1.3bn for overhead cost, N5 billion for personnel cost while N6.4 would be spent on other current expenditures.
Omotunde-Young said the government was doing everything possible to reorganise the education sector in the state so as to make students excel academically.
Similarly, the government said it had also earmarked N5 billion for the agriculture sector in the state.
Mr Kunle Ige, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security disclosed this while defending the budget of the Ministry at the assembly.
Ige also said that the Ministry was also planning to take between N3 to N 4 billion under the anchor borrowers initiative for cassava and rice farmers in the state.
The commissioner said that government was targeting 6,000 farmers under the programme.
Ige stressed that the farmers would be given load under the programme which they would pay back after harvest.
The commissioner said that the state was doing everything possible to increase food production in the state.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Human Resources and Capacity building, Mrs Mobolaji Akande, said that it was sad that many of the unemployed graduates looking for jobs in the state were not employable.
Akande, while defending the budget of the Ministry , said that many of graduates only have certificate they could not defend.
According to her, out of 100 per cent of graduates who applied for jobs through the ministry in the private sectors, only 10 per cent passed the required tests.
Mr Kamil Oyedele, the House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation , urged the Ministry to embark on training and retraining of civil servants in the state.
Kamil said that it was quiet unfortunate that many civil servants in the state had not been trained for service delivery.
