The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has condemned the spate of killing of innocent Nigerians describing it as barbaric.

The President of Women Journalists in Nigeria, Ladi Bala who condemned the killings of innocent Rice farmers in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State as unacceptable said that Nigerians frown at the trend of killings.

In a statement by the President of the Acssociation in Abuja, NAWOJ noted that the senseless killing of innocent Nigerians in any part of the country is totally unacceptable and must be checked and stopped decisively.

NAWOJ particularly expressed concerns and says that the association is equally saddened by the increasing spate of insecurity and constant threat to lives of Nigerians across the country and therefore calls for review efforts to make the states particularly the North-east region safe again.

The statement said: “The incessant killings have sent many of our women into untimely life of widowhood with it’s attendant consequences on the future of their children and the society, a development that spells doom for the future.”

NAWAOJ while commiserating with the Government and the good people of Borno State over the calous, inhuman, ugly, unfortunate and unacceptable incident, urged Governor Babagana Zulum to get widows of the deceased employed as alternative source of income to alleviate their sufferings.

The Association also welcomes the Marching Order given by President Muhammadu Buhari to the military to take the battle to the enclave of the terrorists.

Accordingly, the Association appeals to the military and other security agencies to as a matter of National interest and concerns, step up their fight against terrorists and bandits in the country.

The battle, NAWAOJ says, must be won for Nigerians and for a better Nigeria.
