Wild Protest In Lafagi Over Saraki’s Visit to Families of Three Youths Killed By Senator Lafiagi’s aides

Senate President Bukola Saraki was today stoned and chased out of Lafiaji town by youths that are opposed to his visit to their community, over the Senate President’s attempt to shield Senator Lafiaji from prosecution and prevent justice in the murder of three Lafiaji youths.

You will recall that on 17th November 2017, three Lafiaji youths were shot dead by soldiers allegedly on the orders of Senator Shaaba Lafiaji, a lawmaker representing Kwara North senatorial district, while many others were equally injured. The unfortunate incident led to the burning of a building belonging to Senator Lafiaji.

It was as a result of the incident that the Senate President paid a visit to Lafiaji on Friday to meet with the traditional ruler and other leaders of the community. However, after meeting with the royal father, Senator Bukola Saraki informed the emir that he would be visiting families of the victims in that cruel incident, a development that sparks anger among the youths.

Further investigation into reasons for the attack on Saraki revealed that the youths were angry at his involvement in plans to prevent the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of the three youths killed on 17th November 2017.

It was further gathered that some youths called Patriotic Youths of Lafiaji, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State were behind the attack on the Senate President venting their anger in what they term as trying to mock the family of the victims who are still seeking justice for their children.

A representative of the Youth who spoke with National NEWBEAM under anonymity in a telephone conversation said: Our youths to flare up in protest hauling stones at Saraki because his visit at this time was seen as an attempt to score a cheap political point.”

He said Lafiagi youths may remain restive until the known killers of the Three youths are brought to justice.

The Police Public relations officer, Kwara Command said he was not aware of any such occurence at Lafiagi. He said: “I have no record or report of any such occurrence, we have enough security on ground sir”.
