We Might Be Rigged Out But We Made Our Mark, The People Had Spoken – Kwara PDP

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Kwara State Chapter has described the Saturday local government elections in the state as a mockery of the electoral process.

Speaking at a Press Conference at the party secretariat, Asa Dam Road on Sunday, the Chairman of the party Barr. Iyiola Oyedepo who titled his speech as “Kwara LGA Elections: Mockery of Electoral Process” said that whatever the outcome of the elections, his party will not be surprised but reiterated that the people of Kwara had come out to speak their minds through their votes.

He expressed satisfaction at the turnout of voters in the Saturday local Government elections that took place across the state adding that: “we have made a statement with this election, as far as PDP is concerned. We want the people to know the level of awareness in Kwara. We want people to know that we have raised the bar of political consciousness in Kwara and that has been achieved.”

Responding to questions on whether PDP will go to court if rigging is suspected in the outcome of the election, Oyedepo said that his party has no confidence in the Kwara State Judiciary and the Police.

In his words: “We in PDP do not have confidence in their Judiciary in Kwara State and their police. That is the news, but what we have done in the elections is a pointer to 2019 elections. We are going to build on what we have achieved now to make sure that we exit them from office in 2019.

The Party chairman alleged that the elections were characterized by massive rigging and manipulations here and there reiterating that elections in Kwara State had always followed that pattern and that he would not be surprised at whatever KWASIEK eventually announce as the outcome of the elections.

He said: “ Saraki and Ahmed have been in the government of continuity since 2004 and has conducted five elections with all following same pattern, a pattern of manipulation, fraud and lot of violence. So this election of 2017 has followed their own normal pattern and not only that, they have always scored 100 percent in elections and where they didn’t even score100 percent, they pass themselves, putting themselves in power. So if it turns out that they again announce100percent win, it is their normal pattern of scoring despite their failures. However, 2017LGA election is the worst in the history of LGA elections in Kwara State or rather say in the history of LGA elections in Nigeria.”

The PDP Chairman decried lack of proper accreditation of voters for the elections which aided manipulation, multiple voting and other vices that mar the electoral process aside the fact that polling stations were deliberately starved of essential voting materials in areas where they know that we have strength, a deliberate act of disenfranchising some people creating loopholes for fraud.

The Chairman also decried the arrest of some of his members by the Police in Kwara State for staging a peaceful protest over the poor conduct of the local government elections.

However, the Kwara State Command of the Nigerian Police has said that the unlawful gatherings and processions of some miscreants and political thugs in some parts of  Ilorin Metropolis over the Local government elections in the state.

Dsp Ajayi Okasanmi, Police Public Relations Officer for; Commissioner of Police Kwara State Command lamented that despite the peaceful conduct of the election some people are still protesting.

He warned: ““The command is, therefore, using this medium to advise parents and guidance to call their children and wards to order, as the Command is fully prepared to deal with anybody arrested for causing the breach of peace.”
