Unilorin To Participate In 7th Kwara Trade Fair – VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, has assured the Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) of the institution’s readiness to participate in the 7th Kwara State Trade Fair coming up between March 26 and April 6, 2018 at the Baseball Pack, Adewole Estate, Ilorin.

Prof. Abdulkareem gave the assurance last Tuesday (March 6, 2018) when the Director General of KWACCIMA, Prince Suleiman AyodeleFagbemi, visited him in his office.

Responding to the KWACCIMA DG’s invitation to the University to come and showcase some of its research outputs at the Trade Fair, the Vice-Chancellor said, “We have plenty things that we can showcase at the fair”.

Prof. Abdulkareem expressed the hope that people would show interest in the research efforts to be showcased and sustain that interest for the benefit of the country.

The Vice-Chancellor told Prince Fagbemi, “I can assure you that I will let my Deans in related areas know that something like this is coming up and that FUTMinna is coming. The Office I left before becoming Vice-Chancellor takes care of things like this and I assure you that we will be there, we will be well represented”.

Earlier, the KWACCIMA DG had told the Vice-Chancellor that the Chambers was aware of the series of innovations and discoveries by the University researchers that need to be showcased for the awareness and possible patronage by people outside the University campus.

He informed Prof. Abdulkareem that KWACCIMA had already secured the participation assurance of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna) at the Trade Fair, saying, “I felt it would be unfair of me, as a product of Unilorin, to bring Minna to Ilorin and leave out our own University. So, we count on you to be part and parcel of the Trade Fair.”

Meanwhile, Prince Fagbemi disclosed that the upcoming Kwara Trade Fair 2018 is aimed at promoting local businesses to the global community.

While featuring on a special interview programme on Unilorin 89.3 FM last Wednesday (March 6, 2018), he said that participation is open to all and sundry whether as groups or individuals who have products or inventions to showcase to the world.

Prince Fagbemi, an alumnus and one time President of the Unilorin Students’ Union, pointed out that aside the University of Ilorin, some other notable higher institutions of learning in the country, such as the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete; the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna), and the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, among others, have indicated their intention to participate in the Trade Fair.

The KWACCIMA boss said that the economic downtown, which affects not only businessmen but governments across the country, was the reason why the trade fair was put on hold for some years, adding that it has now come to stay.

Speaking on the power supply for the 14-days event, the DG said that two giant generating sets would be provided to complement the public power supply.
