Traditional rulers in Kwara State have been called upon to counsel their subjects on the danger inherent in bush burning as part of measures to prevent fire outbreak in the state.
This was sequel to a Motion on Notice titled ” Need to Mitigate Fire Outbreak During Dry Season” raised by House Leader, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji-Olawoyin representing Ilorin Central Constituency on the floor of the House.
Leading debate on the Motion, Alhaji Magaji-Olawoyin said the motion became necessary in view of increasing wave of fire outbreaks in the country which he said should be prevented with all vigour to safeguard lives and property
He said many farmlands have been destroyed occasioned by incessant bush burning majorly for hunting and partly for fun as the state is made up of agrarian communities which usually keep their farm produce for consumption and economic purposes.
Some lawmakers in their contributions noted that all hands must be on deck to wage war against indiscriminate bush burning by educating and enlightening the people at the grassroots towards halting the menace.
Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu urged the state Ministries of Communication, Environment and National Orientation Agency to sensitize the citizenry on the danger associated with bush burning through implementation of the state Bush Burning Control Law two thousand and six to guard against inferno Engineer Danladi-Salihu also advocated adequate safety measures to be put in place in homes and business environments to forestall fire incident
