Stop glorifying ill-gotten wealth, EFCC Boss charges Kwara Youths

The Chairman, Ilorin zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr Shyaku Sharu has observed that, social injustice breeds insecurity and that the breeding ground for social injustice is corruption.

Ishyaku Sharu made this remark at the security summit organized by Kwara State Government as a discussion avenue for stemming insecurity in the state.

At the programme which held at the banquet hall of Kwara Hotels ilorin on Thursday, the EFCC Chairman who spoke alongside other security chiefs in the state said he could only view security from the perspective of economic crime stating that the loss of moral value in the society contributes to corruption while corruption leads to insecurity.

“When you look at it, Insecurity and corruption are intertwined. What breeds insecurity is social injustice and what is the breeding ground for social injustice is corruption. Unless and until we view corruption as alien to us detestable and foreign to our culture we would never get it,” he stated

The EFCC boss indicted some politicians as being the cause of the nation’s economic woes adding that instead of building roads and bridges, they would rather travel by air to avoid the experience of the bad state of the roads.

“I see corruption as the breeding grounds for the state of insecurity that we are all afraid of . The big men would always want to go by air or by rail because they know the roads are not safe. They are the cause; they are still within our midst.”

He further expressed his displeasure at the attitude of some youths who hail and celebrate corrupt politicians facing trail.

Ishyaku cited a situation that he described as disgusting, a case of some money launderers standing trial at a Federal High Court but which some youths staged a solidarity march, hailing them and the suspects also returning the gesture, waiving back at them in a seeming shameful manner.

He described the situation as a shame and national embarrassment, therefore urged the youths to shun all acts of worshiping politicians with ill-gotten wealth because the youths are the worst hit by the menace of corruption in the society.

He said: “You must stop glorifying and reprobating ill-gotten wealth. It is your respource but because they are privileged to siphon it and also using you.”

The anticorruption boss gave out his numbers to members of the public especially those who might seek to make a living by being whistle blower.
