A call has gone to well meaning Nigerians and stake holders to support the First Lady in Kara State, Dr Olufolake AbdulRazaq in her pet projects aimed at youth empowerment and women development.
This call was made during a meeting between Her Excellency, Dr Olufolake AbdulRazaq and and the Senior Special Assistant to President Mohammadu Buhari princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire in her office in Abuja.
The meeting was part of its effort towards the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals especially SDG 5 &10, requiring tat all hands be on deck to ensure that the goals as set by the United Nations are achieved.
The discussants at the meeting observed that insufficient progress on structural issues is at the root of gender inequality, unfair social norms and attitudes, decision making on sexual and reproductive issues and low levels of political participation are undermining our ability to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
Her Excellency noted that women’s political participation in kwara state at the moment is one that should be emulated, it was also stressed her office and efforts by Ajike people’s support center aimed at promoting economic empowerment of women, an area she believes the SDG office should key into, to further promote kwara women and girls.
She further stressed that the level of inequalities in income and wealth is severe and the gap widens globally, hence the need to bridge this gap to enable us reduce inequality in our country.
In her response, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, princess Adefulire reaffirmed that the Federal Government is resolute about ensuring that Nigeria joins other Nations of the world in achieving these set goals.
She highlighted the programmes and interventions of the SDG office adding that projects in social empowerment, women and youth development will be extended to kwara state.
The meeting was a follow up to the International Women’s Day commemorative event organised by the Minister of Women’s Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen at the Women Development Centre on the 5th of March which they both attended.
