Princess Funke Adedoyin Is Dead

Saraki, Ahmed, Ahmad, Others Mourn the departed lawmaker

 

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Irepodun Isin Ekiti Oke Ero constituency of Kwara state, Hon. Funke Adedoyin, has been reported dead.

A Minister in former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, heading the ministries of Youth Development and later Minister of State for Health.

It was gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker died in a foreign hospital during treatment for an ailment suspected to be cancer.

The death, which reportedly occurred on Friday, was not yet announced by the family as it was being kept away from her aged father.

A source close to the family said that the deceased had a cancer operation about two years ago, while she had been in and out of the country for medical attention since then.

The source, who said a call was put across to the deceased last week, added that he suspected something was missing when she did not pick or return the call.

Reacting to the news of her death, Senate President Bukola Saraki described Hon. Funke Adedoyin as “Courageous and patriotic public servant who served as Minister and later on, as the legislator, representing Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-ero Federal Constituency, Funke always dedicated herself to the service of the Nigerian people.”

“I pray that the Almighty, in his infinite mercies and wisdom, gives Hon. Adedoyin’s family, constituents and all those that she has left behind the strength to bear this loss. She will be remembered for her service to the nation and to humanity, and she will be dearly missed.”

Also, Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba has described as shocking and devastating the untimely death of Hon. Funke Adedoyin.

 

Gov Ahmed said the state has lost one of her outstanding representatives, a lawmaker full of passion to serve her community and uplift the people of her constituency.

 

He recalled that Hon. Adedoyin during her stint at the lower chamber attracted federal presence to Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero federal constituency and empowered a number of people with a view to uplifting the welfare.

 

Governor Ahmed commiserated with the immediate family of Adedoyin, her constituents and the entire people of the state over the irreparable lost.

 

The Governor also sympathised with her colleagues in the House of Representatives, saying that the state would sorely missed her quality representation.

 

In a related development, Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad has described the death of Hon. Funke Adedoyin representing as sudden and tragic.

Dr. Ahmad, who a leading Governorship Aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while further expressing shock over the incidence, described her demise as a colossal loss to the people of her Constituency, Adedoyin family and the entire PDP family.

 

The Speaker’s reaction which was contained in a condolence message issued by his Media Aide, Shuaib Abdulkadir lamented that Kwara State has lost one her best representatives in the person of the late lawmaker.

He said, without mincing words, the deceased legislator had performed excellently well at the House of Representatives within the last three and half years despite being a first timer at the Hallowed Chambers.

Dr. Ahmad who viewed her passage as regrettable said that the deceased would be sorely missed, not only by her colleagues at the House, but the state at large.

He stressed that Hon. Adedoyin was exceptional at the House, as she was responsive to the yearnings of her Constituents as well as prioritizing what enhances their well-being.

The governorship aspirant prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest, the Patriarch of Adedoyin family, Pa Samuel Adedoyin and other members of the family, the people of Irepodun federal Constituency,the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Peoples Democratic Party, government and People of Kwara State  the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
