OnTiv Professional Association calls for unity among Tiv nation

The OnTiv Professional Association (OPM) Abuja has appealed to the Tiv leaders in the three arms of government to embrace unity of purpose to foster development among the tiv nation.

Engr. Benjamin Nyior, Chairman of the association made the appeal in Abuja on Wednesday at a reception dinner in honour of elected/appointed tiv sons at the national level.

The dinner was organised in honour of elected members of the 9th National Assembly.

Among those honoured were the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Sen. George Akume, Sen. Gabriel Suswam, Sen. Emmanuel Jev, Rep. Robert Tyough, Rep. Samuel Maagbe.

Others are Justice John Tsoho, Herman Hembe (rtd.), John Dyegh (rtd.), Mark Gbilah(rtd.), Rep. Mzoudu Ben, among others.

Nyior also appealed to the leaders to always show interest in enhancing the economic potential of tiv land by investing in aggressive agriculture while still serving at the federal level.

He stressed the need for the leaders to come together and provide employment opportunities for teaming youths.

He further appealed that the leaders should assist in canvassing for a presidential pardon for late Col. Joseph Akaahan, the first indigenous Chief of Staff.

” Since the three arms of government are here, we appeal to you all to work towards getting a presidential pardon for late Col. Joseph Akaahan.

” Whatever crime he might have committed deserves to weighed against his service to father at the most trying period of our country history.

” It could be recalled that Col. Odemegu Okuku that led the succession against Nigeria received presidential pardon and enjoy national burial.

“This is a challenge all of us should take home,” he said.

Nyior further noted that the herdsmen crisis in Benue state needed full support for the tiv nation.

Meanwhile, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, Former Senate President stressed the need for manpower development to actualise potentials among the people.

Ayu noted that since development cannot be left alone to the government, OPM needed the full support of the tiv nation to achieve meaningful development in every sector of the economy.

” Manpower development among the tiv people is second to none in the whole northern Nigeria which is the self efforts of OPM.

” If we unite, never minding some of the wranglings among politicians and act as a people, no force can defeat us.”

Ayu called on the sons of the land who were political leaders to play the role of supporting the younger generation to be less partisan thereby bringing the dividend of democracy to the people.

He also appealed to the youths to desist from making negative comments about their leaders especially as it was usually seen in the social media platforms.

He added that harmony among the tiv nation would ensure development in the land.

In an address, Prof. Yima Sen, a lecturer at the Baze University, Abuja said the problem the country was facing was leadership while stressing the need to critically look into this area for political and economic progress.

Sen added that until the leadership problem of the country was addressed, the country would not make an headway.

High point of the event was the launch of the first all tiv summit book titled” The Quest for Socio and Economic Development of Tiv Land”.

The Ontiv Professional Association is a registered Non-governmental Organisation established to foster unity and educate members on current happenings for individual and collective development.
