Offa/Oyun Blackout : Kwara Assembly Directs IBEDC To Restore Supply

The Kwara State House of Assembly, has directed Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, (IBEDC), to restore power supply to Offa/Oyun axis immediately.

 

This is part of the resolutions of the House, following a Matter of Urgent Public importance, raised by the House leader and Member representing Essa/Shawo/Igboidun Constituency, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, on the total shut down of power supply to Offa/Oyun Local Government Areas of the state.

 

The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, while reading the resolutions of the House, described the action of the Energy Distribution Company without any notice, as unacceptable and breach of its commitment to the affected communities and called for immediate reversal.

 

The House according to the Speaker, also directed its committee on Energy, Works and Transport, to interface with the IBEDC and the affected Communities, with a view to ensuring permanent resolution of the impasse.

 

The legislature also urged the National Assembly to expedite action on its various interventions, regarding the excesses of the energy distribution companies across the country, with a view to enhancing the wellbeing of the people.

 

The legislature equally, at its Thursday’s sitting, directed the expanded committee on Energy, Works and Transport, to invite the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya and the General Manager, State Road Maintenance Agency, to explain what can be done, to ensure quick construction of Buka Bridge, along Jebba- Adena road, in Moro Local Government Area of the state.

 

This followed consideration of the report on the, On -the -spot – Assessment visit to the collapsed bridge, presented by the Chairman,  House Committee, on Energy, Works and Transport, Hon Mathew Olaitan Babaoye.

 

The Speaker, while directing the expanded Committee to submit its report within a week, suspended further consideration on the report, pointing out that the appearance of the two officials, will address many burning issues on the collapsed bridge.

 

Meanwhile, the State Governor, Alhaji Abdul Fatah Ahmed, has forwarded a bill seeking among other, provisions to establish Customary Court of Appeal in Kwara State.

 

The Bill contained in a message by the Governor to the Speaker, read at the floor of the House, said the Court shall have jurisdiction to hear appeals from Area Courts and Upper Area Courts in the State.
