Octogenarian Raises Alarm Over Threats To Her Husband’s Life

A woman in her early 80s and the Iyaloja of Aramoko Ekiti, Chief Florence Oyewole, has raised the alarm over the threat to the life of her husband, 85-year-old High Chief Emmanuel Oyewole, in Aramoko Ekiti in the Ekiti West Council area of Ekiti State.

The octogenarian alleged that the assailant, one Omotayo Falope, had been threatening to kill or kidnap her husband, who is the Okunato of Aramoko Ekiti, over the community’s alleged role in the arrest of his son.

The woman said in Aramoko Ekiti on Thursday that Falope, who assaulted her husband and one other high chief during a meeting of the Alara-in-Council, has since been threatening fire and brimstone towards her husband.

She said: “I have fears for the safety of my husband. Even I don’t feel safe as I speak with you. Kidnappers are on the prowl these days. Killings are happening on daily basis. So, we should not see his threats as empty. The government should intervene and come to the aid of my husband. The security agencies should come in before he acts.”

The octogenarian urged government and security agencies not to treat the threats of the man with kids’ gloves, alleging that his antecedents showed that he was capable of engaging in any criminal act.

She said although the community had attempted to intervene in the matter, the fact that Falope, who has since gone into hiding, was still threatening the life of his husband was source of concern.

Sources said trouble started when a team of police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) from Lagos State came to Aramoko Ekiti to arrest Falope allegedly over a matter, but took away his son who was available instead. The man decided to vent his anger on some members of the community by assaulting and threatening them.

Corroborating the octogenarian, the Olojo of Aramoko Ekiti, High Chief Ajayi, said the man came to disrupt a meeting of the Alara-in-Council, and in the process assaulted some chiefs including Oyewole.

Ajayi said the council had since barred Falope from the palace over his irresponsible act and his threats to burn down the Alara Palace, kill and send assassins to the community.

Effort to trace the whereabouts of Falope has been futile as residents said he has been operating from hiding.
