The Director-General, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim says it is partnering with security agencies to ensure the safety of corp members in the face of security challenges facing the country.
Ibrahim made this known in Nassarawa on Tuesday at the 2021 NYSC Batch A Pre-Orientation workshop with the theme” Managing Corps Population in the Orientation Camps in the Context of the New Normal”.
According to him, the safety of our Corp members and staff are of paramount importance to us.
He also said that the corps would increase the capacity of the orientation camps across the country to accommodate corps members.
“ We are collaborating with the security agencies. This is to ensure that corp members are taken to where it is safe based on advise given by the security agencies.
“It is also worthy to mention that the orientation camps have been put in conditions that will allow seamless conduct of the exercise in line with the approval COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
“ However, we will use the opportunity of the workshop to harness our experiences and explore the prospect of increased camp capacity without losing sight of the need to adhere strictly to safety protocols,” he said.
The NYSC boss said the workshop was organised to review the previous orientation courses with a view of improving performance in subsequent exercises.
He added that the scheme had conducted orientation courses amidst the challenges of COVID-19 through strict adherence to all safety protocols.
According to him, NYSC is a model when it comes to COVID-19 safety protocols as our Corp members are adequately trained by the NCDC.
He, therefore, commended governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa State for granting approval for the renovation of Magaji Dan Yamuna Permanent Orientation camp in Keffi and the augmentation of feeding of corps members and officials.
Also, governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State said that the workshop was a preparatory strategy of keeping stakeholders and participants abreast with new challenges and how to counter it.
Sule, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths be Sports, Mr Uthman Adam, said the workshop was not only apt but instructive.
According to him, the scheme is to ensure mobilising the graduate youths for National Service in the face of the ever increasing corps population and the dangers posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“ I must not fail to recognise that the National Youth Service Corps has been at the fore front of fostering national unity and the fight against COVID-19.

protective materials such facemasks, hand
sanitizers, sample collection box, temperature
detection device and numerous others will continue to be recorded as NYSC’s
contribution to national development.”
Mr Ahmed Ikaka, Director. Planning, Research and Statistics of the corps said the workshop was put together to enrich and enhance the operations of the corp with regards to the conduct of the orientation course amidst the new normal.
Ikaka urged participants to pay rapt attention to the courses that would be delivered in order to have a far-reaching resolutions that would guide the conduct of the forthcoming orientation course.
