No Outbreak Of Monkey Pox In Kwara – Commissioner

Kwara state, the State Government has said that there is no outbreak of monkeypox in the state.

According to the state’s commissioner for Health, Hon Atolagbe Alege who spoke with newsmen in his office, Ilorin, the state capital yesterday, there were no traces of the disease in any part of the state by empirical and available records.

Atolagbe said that the outcome of the investigation by state health officials in all the 16 local government areas of the state showed that there was no outbreak of monkeypox disease in any part of the state.

“For now, Kwara has zero records of monkeypox and we are working round the clock to maintain the record,’’ he said.

The commissioner also said that the state government had trained 241 health workers on prevention as well as treatment of the disease in case of a possible outbreak.

He said the trained personnel have been deployed to all the 16 local government areas of the state.
The commissioner advised residents of the state to maintain a clean environment at all times to complement government efforts at ensuring healthy living.

He also urged residents to embrace hand washing at all times to prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases.
