Niger Delta: NANS Commends Buhari, Says Governance Successful

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari over what it described as his administration’s efforts at reaching out to Niger Delta rural communities.

Mr Danielson Akpan, National President of the association said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

Akpan also called on Buhari to consider appointing Prof. Nelson Braimbafa as substantive Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Jan. 25, approved the appointment of Braimbafa as acting director of NDDC.

Akpan also noted that appointing Braimbafa would further help integrate and deliver on the mandate of the commission in ensuring peace in the region.

“Despite being in acting capacity, Prof. Braimbafa has been able to integrate and deliver on the mandate of the commission. Peace has returned to the once tensed region.

“His ability to dialogue with all stakeholders has laid a solid foundation for peace.”

The NANS president also said that Braimbafa recently announced a postgraduate scholarship for students and urged interested students to apply through the commission’s website in order to benefit.

He said the students’ body was confident that appointing Braimbafa would fast track a robust programme in the area of empowerment and security, education and provision of infrastructure in Niger Delta.

Akpan appealed to Buhari to appoint only efficient hands who would help him achieve his policies; as well as fulfill his campaign promises during his second term.
