NCS To Honour Nigerians With Outstanding Contributions To IT Development

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is set to celebrate and reward more Nigerians with outstanding excellence in the field of Information Technology (IT).

The NCS President, Prof. Adesola Aderounmu, gave the assurance at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said that the Nigerians would be honoured at 2017 NCS’s National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA).

“Annually, the NCS recognizes, celebrates and rewards outstanding excellence and exceptional contributions in the IT field through the unique national platform that NITMA provides.

“Our focus as a society is progress for the sector in particular and the nation as a whole.

“As the acknowledged professional authority facilitating the development of an inclusive, globally competitive, prosperous and knowledge-based Nigeria, NCS is committed to recognising and rewarding outstanding hard work and excellence in accelerating IT development,” Aderounmu said.

He said that the criteria for selecting the awardees included IT specializations, NCS standards, and global best practices.

“Professional fellowships will be conferred on members of NCS who are recognized as authorities in their fields of computing and have distinguished themselves through significant contributions to the growth of IT in professional expertise and activities,” he said.
According to tom him, NCS would confer honorary fellowship on the Managing Director of Data Sciences, Mr Aniekan Etiebet, for his dedication and exemplary service to IT growth and development in Nigeria.

“The IT Personality Year Award also known as the NCS President’s award will acknowledge and celebrate individuals that have excelled in our technology sector during the year.

“In 2017, nominees for this most prestigious award are: Mr Amos Emmanuel, Chief Software Architect/Chairman, Programs Software Group; Dr Isaias Barreto da Rosa, Commissioner for Telecommunications and Information Technologies, ECOWAS.

“Others are Mr Tope Aladenusi, Chief Strategy Officer and Cyber Security Leader, Deloitte West Africa; Mr Valentine Obi, Group Chief Executive Officer of eTranzact Global; and Dr. Yele Okeremi, Chief Executive Officer, Precise Financial Systems Ltd.’’

The NCS president said that some other individuals and organizations would be honoured with Special Recognition Awards for their huge contributions in IT and related areas.

“We must encourage those in our environment who are using their knowledge, creativity and resourcefulness to develop local tech solutions that are so essential to the drive for socio-economic, growth, recovery and development,’’ he said.

According to Aderounmu, the awards would take place on Thursday at the Muson Centre, Lagos.

“The NITMA event is a strong and purposeful indication of our commitment to celebrating talents and highlighting innovation, excellence, vision and dedication of individuals and organisations
within the IT industry and community,” he said.
