NANS Vow To Address Alleged N46m Babcock University India Medical Trip Scam

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has vowed to address the alleged N46million Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo India medical trip scam rocking the institution.

 

Mr Adeyemi Azeez, National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

 

It would be recalled that a report trending in the media on June 19 revealed how 48 final year medical students accused the institution of swindling over N46million meant for students medical trip to India.

 

The report gathered that due to this development, a crisis erupted the institution when the management asked the affected students to pay N962,700 each for a training trip to India which was eventually not organized for the students.

 

It was also gathered that after the amount was paid into the school’s account, the journey became impossible as India embassy failed to grant the students visa to embark on their trip.

 

The issue was however brought to the public domain when parents and students insisted on the refund which the institution failed to oblige to.

 

He added that the association had set up a three-man committee to investigate the matter.

 

 

According to Azeez, the attention of the national leadership of NANS has been drawn through a series of petitions submitted to the mail of the association from parents, guardians, and students.

 

“NANS describes as shameful on the integrity of an assumed renowned university to have perpetrated such scam on students of the institutions.

 

“The president of NANS,Comrade Danielson Akpan has set up a committee to as a matter of urgency and necessity visit the school to have interface with the management of the school, to avail NANS with the genesis and reasons of these allegations on the school managements.

 

“NANS cannot afford to neglect fundamental issues that directly affect Nigerian students, regardless of the category of learning.”

 

He, therefore, said that the leadership of the association had assigned Mr Ojo Regards, Vice President External Affairs, Mr Adeyemi Azeez, Puiblic Relations Officer and Mr Leke Ogunrombi, to serve as the investigating/enquiry committee.

 

Azeez added that the committee are to report back to the secretariat details of findings made from the school managements by Thursday, June 27.
