The National leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has described as laudable the efforts of the rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Dr Samson Odedina in restoring the glory and dignity of the school.
Mr Adeyemi Azeez said in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday that a meeting of the association executive which was held at the University of Abuja on June 18 necessitated reviewing the state of education and nation at large.
Azeez described it as needful and encouraging for NANS to come out boldly to commend and appreciate successful heads of institutions where the leadership noticed tremendous achievements are or were witnessed.
He added that such commendations would stand as a catalyst to gear up other heads of institutions, thereby making them realize that such association was keeping a close watch on them.
“After series of reports from different states on efforts by the management of schools towards making their school a conducive, peaceful with cordial management-staff-students working chain, Dr Samson Odedina of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic was obviously seen to have achieved alot in managing and restoring the years-long lost glory of MAPOLY, Abeokuta.
” NANS under the leadership of Comrade Akpan shall for any reason or amount cheapen the hard-earned integrity of NANS, as such the only way of getting commendations from NANS will be through obvious hard work and commitments to work by the institution heads and not thru any form of lobbying.”
Azeez, however, noted that the President of NANS also distanced the association from an award presented to the acting registrar of NECO in the name of NANS.
He said the award was described as a deliberate and desperate move of the acting registrar of NECO and his lieutenants to deceive president Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians as a whole.
He added that NANS has not for any reason found the acting registrar or the board worthy of any award.
