The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has decried the increase in the tuition fees of the students of Ogun State D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic describing it as uncalled for.
Mr Adeyemi Azeez in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday said nothing warranted the increase of tuition fee by N5,000.
According to him, we have investigated and discovered that the increase was true, the development that NANS oppose in its entirety.
“Although, some quarters have alleged that the hike is hinged on some instructions given to the school management by unknown persons.
“We however appeal to the Rector of the institution, Dr Olufemi Fatade to immediately see to the immediate reversal of the management’s decision on the increment as we hold you in high esteem.
“Having 13 tertiary institution in the state, we have discovered that none of the other 12 is thinking of doing such at this critical time except D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic.
“We have also learnt that aside the increment of N5000 jacking up the tuition fee from N55,000 to N60,000 for National diploma students, while N71,000 has also been increased to #76,000 for HND students.
“The school management has also indulge in some modernised extortion which have been tagged different names such as; a sundry fee of N12,000 ; developmental fee of N15,000; late submission of file of N10,000 and updating of file which as well cost N5,000.”
Azeez said that against all odd,NANS would not mortgage the trust of the students in their mother body especially the children of the poor.
Meanwhile, the National President of NANS, Mr Danielson Akpan has delegated a six-man panel of comrades and national executive members to meet with the school management on Monday, September 23 to ensure that status quo remained in the school.
“We however request that the amount of the tuition fee be reversed to status quo effecting from this semester in the institution,” he said.
