A civil society organization, The Democratic Movement (TDM), on Wednesday noted that the lingering Naira notes crisis is capable setting the country on fire, if not properly addressed.

National Coordinator of the organization, Comrade Adesina Akinpelu, gave this warning while reacting to pocket of protests that erupted in some parts of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, over the refusal of banks, filing stations and other commercial outlets to collect old Naira notes from customers.

The National Coordinator of TDM warned the Federal Government and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to have a rethink over the Naira policy, which he described as anti – people.

Akinpelu maintained that insistence of President Muhammodu Buhari and the CBN Governor, Godwin Emiefele, that the old Naira notes are no longer legal tender in Nigeria when new notes have not been made available to the people is condemnable and should be reversed.

TDM also took a swipe at Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state for not taking proactive measure to address the crisis, as his counterpart in Ogun and other States did.

Akinpelu noted that it is unfortunate that Governor Makinde, because of  his alleged romance with the APC, has remained silent while people of his state are suffering and are already reacting to the hardship brought to the by the Naira notes policy.

His words, “Even Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who is an APC members compelled banks and filing stations  to continue collecting old Naira notes from the people.

“We are surprised that Governor Makinde has remained silent when people of the state have already become agitated, when his people have already become frustrated”.
