Melaye Moves To Stop Gov Bello From Selling State Owned Properties In Kogi

The three Senators representing Kogi State had formed an alliance called ‘Save Kogi Project’ to stop Governor Yahaya Bello from embarking on his plans to sell properties belonging to the state.

The lawmakers while addressing a group of journalists in Abuja on Monday, vowed to resist any move by the governor Bello sell off the common patrimony of the people of Kogi State under the guise of his privatization policy, a plan believed to be mischievous, ill-fated and designed to steal from the people.

Inaugurating the Executive members of Save Kogi Project, Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West), who doubles as the Chairman of the group, wonders why the state government which has not added anything to projects inherited since it came to power now wants to sell off what it inherited.

Melaye questions recent verification of civil servants in the state; arguing that despite spending a whopping sum of N1 billion, nothing has come out of the exercise.

“Of what essence was the verification of Kogi workers that after spending a whopping N1 billion, nothing came out of the exercise,” he said.

Melaye blamed the current crisis in Kogi on the lukewarm attitude of the Presidency and the leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC).

He said the decision of INEC to transfer Yahaya Bello’s temporary voter card to Okene underscores his claims that Bello was not qualified to contest as governor from the start.

Speaking, Senator Atai Aidoko said ‘Save Kogi Project’ has become necessary to quickly rescue Kogi from abysmal failure of leadership in the state, pointing out that Kogi has never had it so bad.

Also joining forces in the gang up against Yahaya Bello from office are former Senator Mohammed Ohiare and Senator Ahmed Ogbembe representing Kogi Central.

Though Ogbembe was not at the meeting, he sent a representation.

The lawmakers were unanimous in the verdict to wrest power from Yahaya Bello and what they described as a reign of bad leadership in the state.

They vowed to confront Bello using every available legal means to achieve their aim.
