The Chairman, Kwara Internal Revenue Service, KWIRS, Dr Muritala Awodun has commended the Kwara State Governor for running a government of transparency, accountability as well as its all-inclusiveness.
Awodun who was addressing a quarterly press briefing at the conference hall of the Ministry of Information on Thursday reiterated that the existence of KWIRS gave the state a leverage over other state in its ability to execute and complete all projects embarked upon as dividends of democracy for the people.
He said that though the people are yet to be fully aware that tax payment is a civic responsibility from patriotic citizens regrets that at times his office has to employ enforcement to be able to achieve set tax goals.
The lecturer turned tax manager said that he made a total of N1.33b revenue in July declaring a total of N10.32b internal revenue obtained for the half year ended on 31st July, 2018 adding that their might be a lower trend during the political period because enforcement will be relaxed though tax defaulters will still have to pay up when the authorities come after them after elections.
Awodun also informed that the Kwara Internal Revenue Service is the first agency of government that sought International Standards organization assessment of it operation adding that by the time this is obtained the KWIRS will have ISO Certification for its operations in quality service and for continuity.
He also informed that the agency has had cause to lend funds to the State government to meet up salaries when the federal allocations are yet to come adding that such funds are however returned at the appropriate time for onward disbursement to the Infrastructural Funds meant to deal with infrastructural development in Kwara state.
He said that KWIRS has been well positioned in a way that continuity is guaranteed after his tenure lapses as well laid structures has been put in place to standardize its operations for continuity.
