KWIRS Awards Journalists For Meritorious Reportage

Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) on 27th January, 2018 gave awards to different categories of media practitioners covering their operations.

The highly coveted Award for best-performing media in the state was conferred on some members of the media who had been partnering with the organization in showcasing its activities.

Sikirat Olamide Shehu, BusinessDay correspondent in Kwara State was among the lucky honorees who received an award of recognition as the ‘Best Female Journalist of Year’ alongside four others, who were carefully selected from a list of 45 correspondents representing their various medium.

Sikirat, a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri, started her professional career with Daily Trust Newspaper in 2012 and later joined BusinessDay Newspaper in 2016.

In her remarks, she gave thanks to Almighty God for the award,  expressed appreciation to the Chairman and staff of KWIRS for selecting her and recognition of her support to the service.

“I feel honoured because I never thought I could be selected  for such award. Though,  committed to reporting their activities adequately but this surprised me greatly. My profund gratitude goes to Almighty Allah for the blessing and thank to the Chairman KWIRS and the staff, may God continue to bless the service,” she said

In his key note address, Dr Muritala Awodun, the Executive Chairman of KWIRS said words of mouth is not enough to express appreciation to those that have contributed to the success recorded by the service in the past years, and that is why the service is giving awards to various categories of stakeholders to encourage them.

The Chairman said: “But beyond the appreciation, we also feel that we should not appreciate by words of mouth and that is why this event is taken place and it based on different categories of Awards as a mark of our appreciation for various categories identified with KWIRS.”

He added that the service can not do the work alone,  thereby urging all to continue to cooporation with the service and reafirmed commitment of KWIRS towards ensuring that Kwarans benefit from dividends of democracy.

There were other awards to ‘Male journalist of the year’,  ‘Best media officer in public service’, , ‘Best Print Media’ , and Best Electronic media goes to Radio Kwara.
