As a result of earlier warning issued to Ilegal firearms owners, it was a bumper harvest as Kwarans surrender no fewer than 46 assorted illegal firearms to the Kwara Command of the Nigerian Police.
Displaying the firms at the headquarters of the Kwara Police Command on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Ado Lawan said this in Ilorin while briefing journalists at the state police headquarters, adding that the command would begin a clamp down on those who were still in possession of illegal arms at the expiration of ultimatum for the mop-up exercise.

He stressed that all those who laid down their arms were free from prosecution asserting that anyone henceforth caught with illegal firearms will face the full wrath of the law as the mop-up operation continues.
Among the firearms surrendered includes 32 single barrel guns, voluntarily surrendered and other sophisticated weapons like AK-47 rifles, some English Pistols,,4 locally made cut-to-size single barrel rifles, 7 locally made single barrel, one locally made double barrel pistol, one and one English made pistol.

The Command also paraded a 32-year-old ritualist, Suleiman Ajenifuja, who was in possession of three human skulls which he confessed he transported from Lagos to Ilorin for ritual purposes.

While parading 32-year-old Ajenifuja, arrested for unlawful possession of three human skulls, Ado said the suspect was arrested when police operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle conveying seven passengers including the suspect from Lagos –Ilorin.
‘‘When a searched was conducted, three skulls wrapped in a sack were recovered from a black bag belonging to one of the passengers Suleiman Ajenifuja , who admitted being the owner of the exhibit and claimed to be bringing them to Ilorin from Lagos for ritual purposes.’’,
The CP also announced that the directive of the Inspector General of Police on the withdrawal of policemen attached to certain personalities tagged VIP (very important personalities) was still in force.
He, however, announced April 20 deadline for persons, government agencies and corporate organisations who legitimately require the services of the policemen attached to them to re-apply for revalidation.
The CP said the measure adopted by the police would free more personnel for the force their task of policing and carry out election duties ahead of 2019 general elections.
‘‘We wish to also inform members of the public of the extension of the date of withdrawal of all police personnel attached to VIPs, Government officials, corporate organizations, political office holders has been extended to 20th April,2018. This is to enable the affected officials to reapply for revalidation of the authority through the commissioner of police, Kwara State for IGP’s approval’’.
‘‘Not everybody that apply for revalidation would be considered; the election is coming and we need more manpower. I want to believe this is one of the reasons the IGP gave this directive so that we can have more manpower to carry out the duty of policing and prevention of criminal activities.’’, he said
Also paraded was a Youngman who stole a car belonging another criminal presently serving a jail term but hee suspect claimed that he bought the car not knowing that it was a stolen vehicle. The Police said that investigation is ongoing into the matter.
