Kwara Tertiary Institution Takes Gown to Town in CDS Activity

In a remarkable display  and performance of their corporate social responsibility in impacting their host community , students as well as lecturers of PAN AFRICAN College of Education,  Offa, gathered at the palace of His Royal Highness Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye 2 on Monday 9th Oct with cleaning tools to keep the palace clean in a movement tagged “Community Development Service”.

 The event which was organized by the school to foster unity and growth as well as a way of giving back to the host communities and general society.

Speaking with a team of NATIONAL NEWSBEAM, who were on a courtesy visit to Oloffa Palace,  a lecturer at the PAN AFRICAN College of Education,  Segun Ayeni, who led the students on the project expressed the view that there is need to raise responsible citizens and future leaders who can contribute their quota to the development of their immediate communities even if they lacked the financial capability to do so, adding that there are various means of helping the society, a part of which , he said the students had come to demonstrate at the palace.

Ayeni, who is also the Deputy Provost of the College further  stated: “Community Development Service is a unit course taken by every students of the institution at the end of every academic session which helps the students to improve on their grades and also create in them the awareness to be active and responsible members of any society in which they find themselves, which makes the activity a win-win for both sides”.

Speaking on their participation in the project, some students expressed their views on the course as an encouragement to them and impacting their future.

Another student, Tobi Osunkoya expressed joy that the event afforded the opportunity to see the structural designs of the palace, meeting with the monarch one-on-one and also contributing positively to the community which hosts their institution.

“I was caught by surprise, coming to this Palace. We were just told we are going somewhere. I was even reluctant to come but I am happy that I didn’t miss this opportunity.

“Its my first time of entering the beautiful architectural matseroiesce of a Palace and more excited to see the Monarch, face to face. I cannot forget this experience, I am happy to be here and to clean the palace.”

The event of the day came to a close when His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Oloyede Okikiola Gbadamosi, Ajagungbade 1st, Esuwoye 2nd, the Oloffa of Offa gave his Royal blessings in appreciation of what the students did to the palace on instruction of the school authority. The Royal father commended the effort of the students and prayed that God will bless them with required wisdom in their studies and make them great as future leaders.

Oloffa urged the students to continue the good works and become patriotic citizens in building a better nation in Nigeria for all.
