The Kwara state chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP on Tuesday announced the suspension of eight erring members of the party with immediate effect.
A statement made available to journalists in Ilorin, signed by the acting public relations officer of the party, Mr. Kareem Akanbi, stated that, the leadership of the party made some allegations against the suspended member of the party and that they stand suspended in line with the Constitution of the party.
The suspension might not be unconnected with with the recent petition written by the suspended members to the national secretariat of the SDP in Abuja over the composition of the newly elected members of state executive council of the SDP in the state.
It was gathered that, the national secretariat of the SDP was said to have rejected their petition which they claimed lack merit and locu standi in view of the new development in the party.
Sources close to the party stated that, the suspended members have been laid claim to the leadership of the party which the national secretariat of the party claimed as false as they were just in acting capacity for just administrative exigencies then but without being elected.
The sources further added that, instead of aligning with the newly elected state executive council of the party, the suspended members have been working contrary to the Constitution of the party.
Aside from that, all moves by the leadership of the party to let the suspended members of the party to retrace their steps were said to have proved abortive and the party had no alternative than to call for their immediate suspension from the party in the state.
The party Public relations officer explained in the statement that the decision to suspend the affected members from the party was taken by the party after refusing to take opportunity to state their cases and respond to the allegations against them.
The suspended members include, Mr. Ibrahim Mabolaje, Mrs. Iyabo Eiyebiokin, Mr. Sulyman Danialu and Mr. Abdulganiyu Jase.
Others suspended members are Adelowo Julius, Adamu Muhammed, Bello Oluwole and Bolaji Amogun.
The statement therefore advise the members of the public not to relate with them for and on behalf of the party as they are no longer members of the SDP in Kwara state.
