Kwara  REC Expresses Preparedness for Elections; Explains Cancellation of Results From 4 PUs

Ahead of March 9 2019 Governorship and State Houses of assembly elections coming up nationwide, the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kwara State has made a quick review of last Presidential and National Assembly election in the state .

The INEC Kwara State boss Mallam Garba Attahiru Madami informed journalists at the conference room of the commission in Ilorin on Thursday that results from four poling units were cancelled as a result of non compliance with the strict electoral guideline on the usage of the card reader.

According to the REC, affected poling units include a polling Unit in Baruten, two in Ilorin West and one in Ilorin South out of the two thousand, eight hundred and eighty seven polling units across the state.

The electoral chief affirming the readiness of his agency to conduct of Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections slated for Saturday, March 9 adding that he was committed to giving all the contestants level playing ground .

Mallam Madami explained that INEC had taken delivery of both sensitive and non sensitive materials required for the gubernatorial and Houses of Assembly elections.

The REC hinted that the distribution of election materials to the 16 Local Government Areas had commenced and that boats were also  hired to transport election materials to Riverrine areas of Edu, Patigi, Kaiama and Baruten Local Governments.

The REC said that thirty five governorship candidates, three hundred and thirty eight  candidates contesting for twenty four House of Assembly seats cutting across the nineteen political parties that are participating in Saturday’s polls.

Madami also reassurance that all the Smart Card Readers to be used for the elections have been reconfigured to prevent manipulation and that all votes would count.

He however debunked rumours that some  INEC staff are working in connivance with some political actors in the State assuring that each and every member of his staff are under close security watch as a safeguard from indulging in unlawful acts.
