Kwara Poly Lied, Parents React To Tuition Fee Issues

Parents and students of kwara State Polytechnic has started reacting to statement credited to the Management of kwara State Polytechnic and the Commissioner for Information on the issue of school fees hike.

 

The authorities of Kwara State Polytechnic on Tuesday debunked allegations that there is a hike in the tuition fee of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

At the press briefing that held at the conference room of Ministry of Information, Ilorin the Register, Mr  Moses Salami stated that allegations of new tuition fee of N75, 000 as against N58, 000 charged the students last session.

Corroborating the view of the Registrar, the Kwara State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe, added his views stating that there was no change in the tuition fees.

The duo said that all issues raised in the social media about a hike in tuition fees are mischievous inciting and unwarranted adding that returning students who are now either HND 2 or ND 2 students paid the same N58,000 as it was the last session as HND 1 student.

However, Ajeigbe hinted that the institution has not yet determined what tuition fee of incoming students who just secured admission into ND 1and HND 1 because as he said, “these will be determined by realities on the ground.”

Early Thursday Morning, some parents called our Regional Editor, to accuse Kwara State Polytechnic authorities of telling lies about the said tuition fees showing receipt of former tuition fees paid over their wards, which showed a discrepancy contrary to claims by the authorities.

 

Mr Albdulrashid, a trader said as a parent and is not satisfied with the seeming insensitivity of government to the plight of its citizens especially in times like this in the country.

 

Another parent, Mallam Kareem Azzez that came along with Mr. Abdulrasheed also corroborated his claim hinted that students are already protesting over the said hike at post office area.

 

When our correspondent went out to Post Office Area, a handful of students were seen carrying placards protesting the hike in school fees. One of the students who spoke under condition of anonymity said that controversial increase is displayed on the portal of the school as opposed to news of debunking from the school.

 

Some of the postal read “Pity Our Parents, the economy is biting hard.” Another read “Is this the promised dividend of democracy, Hike in Our School Fees is evil, Gov Ahmed, Help us.”
