Kwara Police Dispels Rumour On Adewole Station

The Kwara State Police Command has described as untrue, malicious and unfounded, the rumour going viral in the social media that Adewole division of the Nigeria Police was aiding ritualists and selling late night marauders aarrested to ritualists instead of taking them to the station for possible prosecution if found wanting.

Debunking the rumour, Mr Ado Lawan who took time to read the said message “E be like say we need to be careful in Ilorin. Policemen of Adewole Division are now agents of ritualists. They arrest people for late hour movement as from 8pm and take them to the ritualists for N80k per head. Some of them have been arrested. Let us pray for justice to reign. Pls spread this information until it gets to d appropriate quarters. The state of harmony seems not to be any more”, said that though the social media is a good tool of mass communication, not all information posted should be taken serious as being true adding that some are with negative  or malicious intent.

CP Ado who also fielded questions from journalists said that there was no fracas between the Army and Police in recent times, wondering where such rumours could have come from or the intention of the peddlers of the rumour.

He said that Kwara remains the state of harmony and residents must not for any reason panic or  be afraid of living amicable.

He however urged members of the public with any valuable information on the possible bad conduct of police men in the state adding that any policeman caught committing any act of illegality would not be spares, no matter how highly place. Earlier in the week, the Police Public Relations officer , Okasanmi had sent a press release over the issue.

In the release, Okasanmi said “It has come rudely though, to the notice of the Kwara State Police Command the false and malicious rumour making the rounds of the sacking of the ‘D’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Adewole Ilorin by soldiers over an allegation that the premises of the police station was used for rituals, according to the false claim, a child to one army officer was kidnapped and taken to the station for ritual purposes.

The rumour could not have deserved any response from the command but for the concerns shown by friends of the Command who believes rightly that such could never happen in the Command.

To this end, the Command is using this medium to debunk such rumour as a figment of the imagination of the bearers, the Command statutory duty is to protect lives and property of the citizens, prevent, detect, apprehend and prosecute offenders and that we shall hold tightly to.

Kwarans are assured of their safety at all times, while they are enjoined to go about their lawful businesses without fear. The command wishes Kwarans a happy independence anniversary, please.”

He concluded that kwara State is safe as ever.
