Kwara Has Great Plans for Educating Our Children – Education Commissioner

 

The Honourable commissioner for education, Hajia Ahmed Fatimah Bisola has reiterated the commitment of the AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman administration to the education of the teeming youths in the state.

Hajia Fatimah stated that the state will stop at nothing to ensure that children in the state match up with children from other educationally leading states and even surpass them because Kwara is one of the leading states in Nigeria as far as education is concerned.

The Commissioner made this assertion when members of CIVIL SOCIETY ACTION COALITION ON EDUCATION FOR ALL (CSACEFA) paid her a familiarisation visit in her office on Thursday to acquaint her of their willingness to partner with the state government in her educational plans and accomplishments.

She said that the vision is great and enormous for the state government to pursue alone which is why partnership with Non Governmental organisations is a welcome idea therefore expressing her readiness to look into their proposals and work partner CSACEFA in the ideas they intend to bring into the state’s plans.

Earlier in her opening speech, Hajia Nimat Labaika, CSACEFA Coordinator in the state expressed confidence in the ability of the Honourable Commissioner to understand issues in the education sector because of her background as a teacher, while also intimating the commissioner on the efforts so far made by CSACEFA in educational development in the state as well as certain discoveries that requires immediate attention, especially in rural areas.
Labaika lamented that education administration in the state was seriously politicized in times past which resulted in low performance in certain quarters of education in the state but expressed hope because of the efforts so far put in by the action Governor, His Excellency Abulrahman AbdulRasaq, whose proactive steps to rewrite the story of education sector in the state is highly commendable especially in paying UBEC debt of N450Million.

She said: “CSACEFA will like to commend the efforts of our action Governor, His Excellency Abulrahman AbdulRasaq, for being proactive to rewrite the story of education sector in the state. We sincerely appreciate him for the payment of UBEC debt of N450Million and the recent plan to renovate some schools.”

Labika expressed the believe that more can be achieved if the government partner with Civil Society Organizations, International Development partners and private organizations to attain quality education in the state.

She made some recommendations the commissioner which includes involvement of communities in the recruitment of qualified teachers’ through the local government indigenization, to establish rural allowance and other incentives to motivate teachers to stay in rural schools, Re-visit the gains of the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) with a view to consolidate on better education service delivery in the State, that Government should support the review of education curriculum and its implementation for improved quality education delivery.

Other recommendations are for Government to approve and mainstream the Inclusive Education Bill to make education accessible to all learners irrespective of ability or disability at their various locations of abode to discourage segregation of children, UBEC fund for infrastructure to be utilized based on community needs through the School Development Plans among other.

Also contributing during the visit Mrs Olufunke Bolaji, CEO, Initiative for Visionary Education and Social Support, IVESS, a member the coalition advised the commissioner to work out plans to make Kwara a donor friendly state by showing real commitment to and having a strong education plan that will be acceptable to those donor agencies.
She further advised that having a transparent budget on education as a way of curbing wastage in the system will also go a long way encouraging the various organizations who are ever willing to assist in the educational development in nations across the globe.

In his contribution, Mr Elijah Adewoye Olusesan of the Living Care Community Development Foundation congratulated the commissioner for being a member of the revolutionary team that seeks to transform Kwara State into what it was designed to be since its creation, praying that God will grant the new administration the grace to achieve all they planned for the benefit of all Kwarans.
