Kwara Governor Flags Off Social Investment Programme

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of kwara State yesterday flags off the social investment programme for informal sector in the state.

 

Addressing beneficiaries at the flag off venue, Government Secondary School, GSS, Ilorin, Alh. AbdulRahman in strict compliance with the social distancing rules explained that the programme, initiated by his administration with a view of carrying along the less privileged kwarans in the in informal sector.

The social investment programme is targeted to give financial support to the less privileged operating at informal sector in the state was flags off

 

He said  “the part of soft loan for the commercial transporters in the whole programme was scheduled to come later in the year before now but due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic that forced government to declared total lockdown in the state they have to adjust it and bring it forward to assist those category of people in order to relieve them of effects of lockdown that had crippled their businesses”

 

Apart from Government Secondary School center, similar efforts was said to be carried out in all the accredited centers across the 16 local government areas in the state for all the organized transporters association in the state.

He explained that the total cost of the programme  was initially planned to give 10,000 Naira loan to 10,000 people to start with but explained that after capturing close to 20,000 persons there is probability of exceeding 20,000 to accommodate all that were captured.

 

He, however, said his administration would continue to do all possible things to ensure that vulnerable people are getting their due in terms of programme and activities that are capable of assisting them.

 

A beneficiaries, Babatunde Ayinla, who claimed to be vice-president of Heritage Okada Riders in Ilorin, expressed appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman for the gesture towards the association.

He said: “we are grateful to our Governor, most especially the process of selecting the beneficiaries and how he made the paying back the loan easy for our members, having giving us the opportunity to be paying back in the range of N100 daily”
