Kwara Flags Off Eco Clean Initiative

Kwara State Government has flagged off the state’s Environmental Sanitation Awareness Campaign code named Eco Clean Kwara project  as part of it s effort to key into the global goals of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The project which is also in line with the mandate of his the Governor of Kwara State, Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also aims at assisting the State in achieving the goals 3, 6, and 13 of the SDGs while also providing jobs for the grassrooters who would be employed as cleaners to implement this project.

The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Aisha Ahman Patigi who made these known while conducting the flag off at the palace of Oloffa of  Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II on Saturday stated emphatically that the programme at the instance of the Governor AbdulRahman AbduLRazaq.

Ahman Patigi, who added that all local governments would be involved  in programme urged Kwarans to support the efforts towards the attainment of success in this programme .

She added that issues surrounding COVID 19 is all about hygienic living which underscores the importance of hygienic living to daily life among the people.

She further explained that her ministry is not taking over the assignment of the Ministry of Environment but added that since the Ministry of Local Government takes care of the local government and its environment, she is taking up the duty to take environmental issues to the door step of the people of the grass root, as part of the administrations objective of healthy living.

In his goodwill message, Chairman House Committee on Local Governments, Hon. Abdulgafar Ayinla Ayilara commended the efforts of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Aisha Ahman Pategi and the DPM Offa for initiating such a wonderful idea.

The Commissioner for Enterprise, Agbaje Femi Wahab also expressed appreciation to the team,  particularly, the Honorable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for her choice of Offa local government as flag off point for the program.

 

“We want each local government to be responsible for their environment. We want to take cleanliness to the grassroots. The scheme will also empower people at the local level,” Hon. Ahman Patigi said. She equally reiterated the Governor’s mission to get all Local Governments clean.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Director, Personnel and Management, DPM, Offa Local Government, Mrs F. O. Aina said that the flag off of the Environmental Sanitation Programme is an initiative of the Governor and that the flag off is taking place at Offa before other sixteen local government area to showcase Offa as a strategic community.

“We are here today at the instance of His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara state to flag off this programme. If you want to be healthy you need to maintain good hygene and that is why they say, Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

“This issue of cleanliness is part of the fight against COVID 19. Ensure you wash your hands regularly and properly and this is what , ensure you maintain good hygene., she said.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Honourable AbdulGafar Ayilara said that government has chosen Offa as a flag off point because of the importance of Offa to Kwara state.

In his response, Oba Mufutau Okikiola Oloyede Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II expressed appreciation for the government’s gesture in taking the flag off to Offa praying for success for the abdulRazaq led administration.

He said that the flag off of the programme is timely and essential and that it is a much welcome development but however, Oba Gbadmosi made a passionate request that the government assist his community with a truck that will dispose off the refuse generated in the community.

He said that Offa people are lovers of clean environment but when their refuse is kept on the road divider awaiting disposal by government truck; such refuse finds it way back into the community if not given attention at the appropriate time.
