The Kwara Area command of the Nigeria Customs Service has disclosed that in the last six month, a period under review between August 2019 and January 2020 it has made of a total revenue of Four Billion, Seven Million, Three Hundred and Twenty One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty Three Naira and Two Kobo (N4,007,321,883.02).
The Area Customs Comptroller, Comptroller Hussein Bello Ahmed, who stated this while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ilorin on Wednesday stated that the feat was possible due to the articulation and execution of result oriented .
Bello also explained reasons for unbundling and creation of eight new Area Commands (Kwara Command inclusive) by the board of Nigeria Customs Service which he said is to enhance administrative convenience and boost revenue generation for the Service.
He further hinted that the command made some successful seizure of Forty Seven (47) with a total duty paid value of Four Hundred and Forty Eight Million, Four Hundred and Thirty One Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (N448, 431,500.00).
The items seized comprise 16 units of vehicles of various types, 953 bags of foreign rice (50kg each), 4,357 bags mosquito coil, 184 Jerry Cans of PMS (25 liters each) and 48 Sacks of 3,593Kg of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana).
The commander lamented the wickedness of these smugglers in bring such a large quantity of cannabis into the state despite the already choked environment where youths and others are said to engage in illicit abuse therefore aiming at further compounding the situation.
“Please Note, of interest is the seizure of forty Eight (48) Sacks of 3,593Kg of Cannabis Sativa otherwise called MARIJUANA. You are not un-aware of reported wide spread abuse on the substance across the country by our teaming youths, this act is unfortunate and we at Kwara Command will continue to do everything humanly possible to stop the smuggling of the substance in order to guarantee a great and promising future for our youths.”
