Jolly Nyame Bags 14 -Year Jail

An FCT High Court in Gudu Abuja, on Wednesday convicted and sentenced former governor of Taraba, Jolly Nyame to 14 years imprisonment with no option of fine over N1.64billion fraud.

Nyame was found guilty and convicted on 25-count charge out of 41 count charge bothering on criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and graft.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Adebukola Banjoko said the convict’s forfeited funds earlier seized by the EFCC would be returned to the government’s treasury.

The judge however, said she was moved by the plea of leniency by counsel to the convict, but was morally outraged with the facts of the case to grant such plea.

Banjoko said the convict, being a clergy, should have lived up to his calling.

She said the convict following facts before the court had encouraged other government officials in Taraba during his regime to engage in reckless misappropriations.

“There’s no moral justification for the level of the outright theft and the court will be failing in its responsibility if it does not impose punishment to serve as a deterrent,’’ Banjoko said.

The convict was not found guilty on 14 charges while he was discharged on two.
