The Vice Chancellor, Imo State University, Prof. Victoria Adaobi-Obasi has challenged her fellow vice-chancellors not to toy with the welfare of all workers in their university.
Adaobi-Obasi, who was speaking on the sidelines of a conference on education by Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated institutions, said premium must be placed on workers welfare to increase productivity.
She also urged both Federal and State governments to go beyond increasing education budget but rather ensure they monitor the implementation of the allocations.
Professor victoria Adaobi-Obasi is among eminent Nigerians who was honoured by NASU at its conference in Abuja.
She, therefore, called for adequate funding of the educational system to make room for progress in other sector.
“The result of their welfare has to do with their output. We should treat the workers very well.
“It is better to have a strong educational system instead of having strong men. If we get it right in education, we must have gotten it right.
” Look at the budget on education and see what is given to education from the state and at the central, that is not to be given to education. Educatiom should be properly funded and must stand firm.
” If we have good education , there will be no unemployment, kidnapping and Boko Haram, so let’s look inward to make sure our education stands,” She said.
