Iloffa/Odo-Owa Communal Clash: Govt Releases White Paper, Traditional Rulers Sanctioned

Kwara State government on Wednesday announced sanctions meted out to the two traditional rulers in the state, Oba Samuel Niyi Dada and Oba Joshua Adeyemi Adimula both of Iloffa and Odo-Owa in Oke Ero local Government Area of Kwara State where communal class occurred early this year.

Addressing Journalists after the council’s meeting, the Commissioner for Local government and chieftaincy Affairs, Muhammed Haruna Tambiri stated that the salaries of the two traditional rulers of the affected communities will be suspended for three months during which they are restricted from performing any official function and must not leave their domain with the knowledge of the chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee.

This announcement he said was part of the State’s Executive Council resolutions after considering a white paper on the report of Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the communal clash between the two communities.

Also, complimenting reports from the Commissioner for Local Government, his counterpart, Commissioner for Information Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe added that the adjoining Central Market Square belonging to both communities must not be used for any other purpose other than for commerce. “The market has been banned for any cultural or religious activities”, Ajeigbe said.

 

adding the first class chief in the area, Elekan of Ekan Meje will represent these traditional rulers for the period of their restriction.

In his own contribution, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Dr Muyideen

Akorede said that the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold is also been mandated to write to the Commissioner of Police for mopping up of illegal firearms and weapons in the area.
