The family of the former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, late Major-General Tunde Idiagbon have said that an aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, to aspiring to represent Ilorin-East/South Federal Constituency, Mr. Jimmy Abdulwaheed Idiagbon, is neither Idiagbon’s son nor a family member.
The aspirant had granted an interview to journalists and reportedly said that the goodwill of Idiagbon would contribute to factors to actualize his ambition in 3019 elections.
He said, “I thank you for saying we are coming into office on the goodwill of our father. A good name is better than riches. Good pedigree will be a leverage point to get into where you want to get into. My motivation is that I have seen what the dormant development is within my constituency. There is the need for an aggressive change and development.”
But the late general’s son, Adekunle, on Friday during a media briefing in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, warned Abdulwaheed against using Idiagbon’s name.
He added that the aspirant was free to pursue his ambition without linking the late general.
Adekunle said he had petitioned the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fofowora Bolaji; the Independent National Electoral Commission and APC about the alleged false claim
He said, “The said Abdulwaheed, who calls himself Jimmy even bragged that the legacy of late Manor-General Babatunde Idiagbon would help him win in the 2019 general elections among other false and unguarded utterances.
“It is pertinent to assert that Abdulwaheed/Jimmy’s claim as the son of the late Major-General Babatunde Idiagbon is false and ibe-too-many.”
He added, “Abdulwaheed who also calls himself Jimmy is not, has never been, and will never be the son of late Major-General Babatunde Idiagbon, let alone a member of the family.
” All members of the family of late Major General Babatunde Idiagbon are righteously aggrieved and embarrassed by thus claim and have commenced immediate steps within the province of the law to bring this Abdulwaheed/Jimmy to book.”
But Alhaji Shehu Bashir who is the Director-General of Abdul Waheed Olushola Idiagbon Campaign Organisation said Abdulwaheed never claimed to be a biological son of the late Major-General.
Bashir said, “The attention of HON. ABDUL WAHEED OLUSHOLA JIMOH IDIAGBON CAMPAIGN ORGANISATION has been drawn to a purported refutal by a certain individual to the extent that the said individual, in reaction to a news report previously published in dailies, that Hon. Idiagbon is not the biological son of the most respected late General Tunde Idiagbon.
“While we take no serious reaction on the said refutal, it is important to let the public know that there was no such time Mr. Shola Idiagbon ever claimed to be Gen. Tunde Idiagbon’s biological son. It is the understanding of the Campaign that the error was made in the news report.
“However, it is important to state that the name IDIAGBON is a family cognomen, borne by every indigene of the compound, which Hon. Idiagbon also biologically belongs to, with pride and honour. Our most revered late Gen. Idiagbon also bore this name with pride and we are proud to have him anytime, any day.
“This clarification has become necessary in order to properly guide the general public.”
