The National President of the Odua Progressive Care Initiative, OPCi, Comrade Moroof Olarewaju has said that he had close ties with Gani Adams, Aareonakakanfo of Yoruba until they pathed ways on principles.
Olanrewaju who featured on a personality programme, News Keg on Thursday in Ilorin’, organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kwara Council of NUJ said that he had to path ways with his close ally, Aare gani Adams as a matter of principles.
He lamented that Aare Gani Adams is not gifted in carrying members along in the scheme of things in the OPC, asserting that OPCI had achieved for members in the last two years of its existence what OPC did not achieve in its 26 years.
The OPCi President further stated that, the involvement of OPC leadersip in political activities , a deviation from the purpose since creation made it imperative to start OPCi adding that welfare of his members is paramount and most important to him which is the essence of was te reason for the formation of the new Yoruba socio-cultural group.
Speaking also on the legality of ethnic militia in the country, Olarewaju said that OPC is an illegal organization because it has been proscribed and we cannot continue dragging its legality or otherwise with the Federal Government.
He said that President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration has since 2001 proscribed the group and others whereas his OPCI, was duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Abuja and instructed have coordinators across states of the federation to do the same with their respective state governments.
Olanrewaju explained that membership of the socio-cultural group had spread across 15 states in the country.
He disclosed that the OPCI had sponsored about 120 of its members on a scholarship to study abroad aside from other empowerment initiatives.
Speaking on his view on the border closure directive of the Federal Government the OPCi boss lamented the spate of insecurity in the past on the porosity of the Nigerian border, therefore, applauding the federal government initiative in closing the borders.
He, however, advocated for the restructuring of the country, where each state would be entitled to set up its own police.
He cited that even the United States where Nigeria copied its own form of democracy allowed for state and local government police.
This, he stated would further address insecurity at the local level.
