I am Handing Over To A Good Successor – Ambali, Unilorin VC

The outgoing Vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiy Ambali has said that he is confident that his successor has the required experience and exposure to continue as a good successor after him.

Speaking at a pre-convocation press briefing on Friday, Ambali said that his successor Professor Prof.  Sulyman Age Abdulkareem has enough cognate experience with which to man the affairs of the University successfully.

Fielding questions from Journalists on his relationship with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambali said that though his office as Vice-chancellor is administrative, which mandate him to manage the institution by whatever means and ensure peaceful environment conducive for learning but at the same time, “I am also a member the academia and I urge that when promises are made to ASUU, it should be adhered to.”

Professor Ambali thereafter handed over to the incoming Professor Age Sulyman whom he said will assume office officially on Monday.

Professor Ambali announced that the University had produced 89 First Class grade students, whom he said were able to achieve this feat through hard work in an environment that is secured for learning.

He said, “we are able to provide good security for our students so that those who want to read till late into the nights can do so without fear when going to the hostel.”

A highlight of the event, a book that chronicled the years of Professor Ambali administration was launched, authored by a veteran journalist, Mr. Akogun, the Institutions Deputy Director of Information.

Reviewing the book, ““The Ambali Years: A Chronicle of the Landmark Achievements of Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (2012 – 2017)”, the book, authored by the Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. AbdulGaniyu Kunle Akogun” Mr Segun Adeniyi, a former Special Assistant to President Yar’Adua commended the writer and the purpose of the book adding that it is almost like first of its type, sensitizing public office holders on the need to document their tenure in office as a reference point for successors.

He said that the University of Ilorin has not been in the good books of other Universities but added that the seeming negative side is what fetched the institution its better by far, unbroken academic calendar and as the most sought after by prospective students in making their choice in JAMB examinations.

Adeniyi therefore charged other administrators of institutions to learn from the University in determining what will be their priority between maintaining a strike-free school or one where students apply for a four-year course and end up spending six years.

“If I have to choose a University for my child in Nigeria, I will prefer the University of Ilorin because I will know that by the agreed number of years, such a child will graduate and be out of school.”

Professor Ambali finally  pleaded that the press continue to extend it hand of fellowship to the incoming Vice Chancellor, whom he assured is ready to work with them as an experienced administrator who knows the import of information dissemination.
