Some contractors who have dealings with the Federal Government Secondary, Ilorin had staged a peaceful protest over their unpaid debt which they said runs into N31.4m on a conservative etimate.
The Contractors who are mainly Food vendors and a printer of the Federal Government College who supplied food and books to the college between 2010 and 2011 have raised the alarm that one of them had died because of financial challenge.

The group identified their dead colleague as the owner of Olatunbosun Ola General Supplies and Contractors,  Mrs. Ronke Obayemi.

They said they were being owed  N31.4m by the college from the supplies the made to the college.

The aggrieved suppliers peacefully protested in Ilorin on Wednesday.

They chanted songs and carried placards with different inscriptions. Such as: ‘Federal Ministry of Education, please pay us our money.’ ‘Honourable Minister of Education, we seek your urgent intervention and attention on this matter as we are long being owed
and are dying of hunger and neglect.’ ‘FGC Ilorin and Federal Ministry of Education please pay us our money. We are suffering.’ ‘Federal Government please intervene in our suffering. We, the food vendors of FGC Ilorin are being owed since 2010/2011.’ ‘FGC, Ilorin, we are
dying. Please pay us our money since 2010.’ ‘Federal Ministry of Education, please pay us our money.’ ‘President Buhari please intervene in our problem,’ and ‘Presidenty Muhammadu Buhari, please intervene in our problem as we are all old and dying as a result of
our being owed by FGC Ilorin since 2010 and 2011.’
A member of the group, Mr. Steven Iwalaye, said they supplied agricultural produce and books to the school between 2010 and 2011,
adding that they had made several  fruitless appeals, consultations and demand notices to the school authorities for their money to be paid to them.

Another member of the group, Hajia Atinuke Olumo   said they were currently going through a lot of financial challenge, hardship, hunger and sickness as a result of the none-payment of the money.
She stated that some of them were at the risk of losing their property which they used for collateral for loans, adding that some banks had started making moves to sell those collaterals to recoup their money.
She called on Buhari and the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu to intervene and ensure that they are paid their money.

Olumo said, “The Ministry  sent their verifier to check the school. They set panel from the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, they held meetings and after the meeting, they sent for three of us. I was among the three that went to Abuja. We met with the director and she
said we should be patient that the money wll be paid. That was in 2012.
“After that they held another meeting, they said they must pay us from the school accunt because they always send the money for allocation for food to them. Si far we worked for them, they must pay this money.
Through our letter and reply to the Principal,  that we supplied the food to , they confirmed that we supplied them the food. They must pay us the money.

“We want our money. One of us is dead because  of this money and some are sick and they do not have money to take care of themselves. As I am talking to you, the bank that I borrowed money from want to sell my house. I have bee begging them.”
The principal of FGC, Ilorin, Mr. Isa Adamu said his predecesor, Mrs. Rita Opaleke informed him of the debt. He added that Opaleke’s had made  recommendation  to the Federal Ministry of Education for the vendors and the printer to be paid.
According to him, he had followed up the recommendations and was hopeful that there will be a favourable response.

Adamu said, “Actually I am new. When I came, the retired principal told me that she had already written to Abuja about it. The last time, I was in Abuja, I tried to check; so the director sent me a letter that I should write on the issue. We wrote and sent it. We are waiting for the reply from the Ministry. The former principal said that she recommended that they should pay, so we did what  we have written and submitted to the Federal Ministry of Education.”
