FG inaugurates governing council of computer professional

The Federal Government has inaugurated the 2019-2021 Governing Council of Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) CPN, with a call to ensuring that the country turned out new generations of youth that were well equipped with Information Technology knowledge and skills.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, inaugurated the council in Abuja on Tuesday.

Adamu said the role of  organisation in the development of the country cannot be overemphasised, especially in ensuring that it realised  the objective of accelerated information and technology penetration and growth in the country.

He said the task of building the country, through information technology, was  enormous and urged the governing council to ensure that competent hands were put in appropriate positions to face the challenges of regulating ‘the fastest developing profession in the world.

The minister, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, revealed that the federal government was not leaving any stone unturned in its efforts of making the country a giant Information Technology (IT) compliant force.

He also called on the organisation to evolve policies that would help government achieve this goal.

While pledging support of the dederal government, the minister urged the professional body to partner to ensure that the country became a leader in IT compliance in the continent.

He therefore called on individuals and corporate organisations in the IT sector to register with the body in order to give their practice some legitimacy.

Speaking earlier, Prof. Charles  Uwadia, President and Chairman-in Council of the body,  pledged to ensure the IT sector was used maximally to boost the nation’s economy.

He said the body was aware of the enormous task before it but that it had competent members to surmount the challenges, while soliciting for the support of the ministry to achieve its goals.

Meanwhile, Prof. Adesina Sodiya, President, Nigeria Computer Society assured the minister of the competence of members of  the governing council to surmount the challenges of the IT sector.
