Fear and apprehension is the experience of Kwarans on the eve of the upcoming Local Government Election in Kwara State.
A cross-section of persons who spoke with our correspondent said that it is rumoured that some power brokers in the ruling All Progressives Party, APC had concluded plans to rig the election and already has the results even before elections are conducted therefore expressing apathy at the election.
However, while this report was being filled, incoming reports has it that soldiers on the entourage of Senator Shaaba Lafiagi, former Governor of kwara State shot four persons and killed three when the Senator was attacked by some mobs during a campaign tour.
As a result of the shooting by Lafiagi’s aides, the mobs set his country home ablaze and a wildfire has seen the smoke ball.
The crises, according to our witness said that the town has become a ghost of itself as residents flee for dear lives as reinforcement of soldiers arrived shooting sporadically in the environment.
According to the source, “I see three dead persons on the floor. The soldiers who were following Shaaba were attacked by suspected political thugs when he was campaigning for his choice candidate.”
Meanwhile the people are also expressing reservations over what is likely to happen at Offa in Offa Local Government Areaof Kwara State.
The People’s Democratic Party was not in the list of contestants in the election and this is as as a result of the exemption reported late submission of the forms.
Our reporteds inform that there is a high scale meeting going on in quarters to cast votes forany other party in the contest other than APC as a protest for what they presume government clamp down on the PDP.
As at time of filing this report, Offa is said to be in a dicey situation as there are claims and counter claims that the ruling APC might still veto in their candidates.
