Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, National Coordinator, Servicom, has said that facilities like public address system, projectors, among others were inadequate in most of the country’s Colleges of Education.
Akajemeli said this in Abuja on Tuesday at the presentation of Servicom Compliance Evaluation (SCE) Report to provost of 22 colleges after the evaluation of the institutions.
She said that these affect the effective and efficient communication and service delivery to consumers which are the students.
She identified common trends in all the evaluated colleges to include consumer satisfactions not carried out regularly to test and determine the quality of services needed and no signage as information tool in most colleges, among others.
According to her, summary of complaints received over a period of time at the colleges evaluated were not published and placed in the public domain.
“This means that students are not aware that their complaints are acted upon and used for service improvement purposes.
“Also, the conveniences of most colleges were dilapidated and in poor state as at the time of the evaluation. Most of the toilets are locked, dirty, flooded and neglected as a result students are not able to use them.
“This reduces student reception experience. This does not make the facilities convenient for use by all students and reduces the satisfaction level of students,” she said.
Akajemeli added that the rating of the colleges was from the service takers in relation with what service provider (lecturers) deliver.
She said the overall objective of the evaluation was to ensure citizens focus on service delivery, identify gaps in service delivery and make recommendations to improve consumers satisfaction and accountability.
She commended all the provosts, urging them to improve on staff attitude and getting information to students to ensure adequate service delivery.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Colleges of Education, Prof. Muhammadu Bappa-Aliyu, promised to work on the recommendation of the report.
“Having gone through the evaluation report, we hope to immediately incorporate these service indicators in our institutions.
“We are going to use all the Servicom findings in the accreditation of colleges of education henceforth,” he said.
Responding, Dr Umar Hassan, Provost, Federal College of Education, Okene, Kogi said most of the problems highlighted were due to inadequate funding.
He said that once the funding problems were addressed, most of the issues would be resolved accordingly.
