A Governorship candidate under the Alternative Party of Nigeria(APN) in Kwara State, Amb. Muhammed Abubakar Muhammed has demanded the immediate probe of the alleged over one billion naira spent on the repositioning of the three media houses in the state.
The former aspirant particularly asked the EFCC, the and anti graft unit of the Nigeria Police Force, ICPC and related offenses commission to probe the claims of restructuring the media houses, adding that the huge amount of money said to have been spent on the exercise has nothing to show for it.
He maintained that the repositioning was questionable more so that the media houses are in comatose rather than taking a new lease of life to portray amount allegedly put into their restructuring.
The National Stalwart of the Alternative Party of Nigeria (APN), in a personal statement issued to journalists in Ilorin, said the inability of the Kwara state Broadcasting Corporation to broadcast Ramadan programmes this year was worrisome as the majority of the people are expecting the station to work.
He also described the claim by government as a deliberate attempt to kill all the media houses and cut the people of Kwara North off the activities going on in the state.
According to him, this is the first time this will be happening in the state during the month of Ramadan, with no hope of the station coming on air due to lack of operational equipment and running cost.
He said Herald Newspapers used to be the pride of the state with people across the country always struggle to get the newspaper, but its current situation is terrible and nothing to write home about.
Amb. Muhammed challenged to know what the outgoing government of Abdulfatah Ahmed can lay claim to as a legacy when his government is leaving behind a dearth of all government agencies and parastatals, including the lack of funding for the Kwara United Football Club.
Amb Mohammed described the nonpayment of two months salaries of the workers as an act of pure wickedness especially during the holy month of Ramadan, urging the government to pay the owed workers their entitlements promptly.
He also called on the incoming administration to look in to the plight of the workers for them to resume their normal operations.
