Drama, As KWASIEC Chairman Declares LG Election Results…Ajidagba Asked Returning Officers If He Pressured Them To Manipulate Results

The results of Local Government elections in Kwara State has been declared Sunday evening amidst mild drama as the chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWASIEC, Dr. Uthman Abdulrahman Ajidagba, intermittently asked returning officers if he pressured them to manipulate results from their zones.

Ajidagaba became dramatic as a result of what he called undue blackmail and pointing of accusative fingers at him over suspicion of possible manipulation in election results.

He said that the delay in announcing result was due to the fact that results from far places were being awaited to avoid making the announcements bit by bit.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates cleared all Chairmanship positions in the elections and have been declared winners.

The Chairman, while announcing the results said APC also won 181 councillorship seats while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also cleared eight wards.

Ajidagba disclosed that the council polls were inconclusive in four wards of Ilorin West, Edu and Moro Local Government Areas.

The returning officers deployed by the electoral commission to each local government area were made to present their results as well as a breakdown of the election results amidst tight security.

The security agents cordoned a section of the dual carriage road leading to the main office of the KWASIEC as part of security measure.

At the briefing, the Returning Officer for Ifelodun local government area, Abdulkareem Issa, declared that the chairmanship candidate of the APC, Abdulfatah Garuba, won unopposed with 58, 369 votes while councilorship candidates of the APC also defeated their opponents in all 18 wards of the council.

Toyin Alege, the returning officer for Offa Local Government Area announced the results in which the same scenario as in Ifelodun repeated itself as the APC chairmanship flag-bearer, Abdullateef Gbadamosi, turned out the winner, unchallenged with a total vote cast of 29,166 while his party also cleared all 12 wards of the council.

For Irepodun local government area, the returning officer, Afolayan Felix Gbenga declared that the APC chairmanship candidate secured 23,236 votes to defeat his  PDP rival, who polled 6,497 votes. In the same vein, the APC won councillorship seats in all 11 wards of the area.

In Oke-Ero Local Government Area, the APC chairmanship candidate won with 13,431 votes to beat his PDP opponent, who scored 3,865 votes. In the councillorship election, however, the APC won seven wards while the PDP cleared three seats, according to the results announced by Balogun Nasiru Ayinla, the Returning Officer for the election.

In  Oyun local government area, the returning officer, Hussein Sabi Saidu, announced that the APC chairmanship candidate won unopposed with 31,129 votes while the party also cleared all 11 councillorship seats in the area.

Results from Kaiama was announced by the Electoral Officer, Adedayo Omotosho Raphael, with the APC chairmanship candidate declared with 17,743 votes, defeating his PDP opponent who polled 3686 votes, just as the APC won councillorship seats of 10 wards in the council.

The contest in Moro local government also saw the APC candidate polling 36,805 to beat his rival in PDP, who got 3,744 votes. The APC also won councillorship seats in 16 wards while the election in one ward was declared inconclusive. The KWASIEC returning officer, Bashar Suleiman Olesin, announced the results.

Similarly, Isin local government area was no different as APC chairmanship candidate won with 12,552 votes, beating his challenger in PDP, who 4,413 votes even as APC also cleared all 11 councillorship seats in the area.

It was the same scenario in Ekiti council area where APC chairmanship flag-bearer won with 20,612 votes to defeat his PDP rival who secured 3,205 votes at the election. The 10 councillorship seats were also won by the APC as declared by the Electoral Officer, Muazu Shaaba.

Also in Baruten local government area, the returning officer, Suleiman Abdulrazak Alasinrin, announced that the APC chairmanship candidate polled 26,253 votes to defeat his PDP opponent, who scored 12,743 votes. All 11 councillorship seats also went to the APC.

In Ilorin West local government area, the chairmanship candidate of the APC secured 19,952 votes to beat her challenger in PDP, who got 15,085 votes. The Electoral Officer, Alfa Muhammad Issa, who announced the results, also declared that APC won nine councillorship seats while PDP won two, just as he added that election in one ward remained inconclusive.

 

In Asa local government area, APC won chairmanship election with 19,454 votes while PDP candidate polled 5627 votes even as APC cleared all 17 councillorship seats of the council.

 

The APC chairmanship candidate for Ilorin South local government area also won with 11,908 votes to beat her rival in PDP, who polled 5,502 votes according to the KWASIEC electoral officer, Abodunrin Samson Segun. In the election, the APC cleared all 11 wards for councillorship.

 

Also, the APC chairmanship candidate also won in Edu local government unopposed with 25,778. While the APC won councillorship in seven wards, PDP won one ward while election in two wards could not hold as scheduled.

 

In Ilorin East local government area, the Electoral Officer, Ibrahim Jubril, announced that the APC chairmanship candidate won with 26,410 votes while his PDP opponent got 10,513 votes. For councillorship, APC won in 10 wards while PDP won two.

 

The APC chairmanship candidate for Patigi local government area polled 16,316 to defeat his rival in PDP who secured 9,860 votes.
