Do Not Politicize Arrest of Cultists In Kwara , OPC Warns

Members of the Oodua People’s Congress, (OPC) New Era have called on the leadership of the Nigerian police not to allow politics override it’s investigation of cult activities in Kwara state.

National Treasurer of the group,  who also doubles as its Kwara state chairman,  Comrade Bayo Ifabiyi  who made the call in Ilorin, the state capital,  said the organisation was keenly monitoring the development and would not keep quiet in the case of any attempt to mask the outcome of investigation.

Fabiyi, who expressed support for the transfer of some of the suspected cultists  to Abuja,  said however that the police must do a diligent prosecution of the matter in the interest of justice and fairness to all concerned.

Chief Bayo Ifabiyi

He dismissed the fears of those who have been protesting over the transfer of the suspects, saying several other cases have been similarly transferred and eventually  brought back to the state without  any negative outcome.

He therefore expressed concern that the matter would become a subject of interest to the National Assembly to the extent of sending a high power delegation to President  Muhammad  Buhari.

“It is disheartening that the federal  lawmakers will take such a step when there are more demanding issues of national security “, Ifabiyi said adding that the protests over the matter could only make Nigerians  to begin asking  questions about the motive for the protest.

His words: “There have been several cases of people arrested either here in Ilorin  or elsewhere in the country; as a matter of fact some years ago some of our men who were fighting  a just cause we’re arrested and taken to Abuja where they spent about  12 months without trial but did we protest?

“But beyond that is the fact that we are interested in how this case will be handled.  The federal government must be transparent on the matter; they may let Nigerians know what is going on and should not allow politics to cover anything.  We are watching from our corner and we will not hesitate  to speak once we notice any untoward  action. ”

The OPC New Era boss also expressed dismay over the collapse of security in the southern part of the state, saying residents now travel over long distances to undertake basic banking transactions following the recent attacks in banks i the zone by armed robbers.

He said,  “There is need to review  the entire security system along that route,  it is so sad today that economic  activities have been seriously paralysed there due to the security situation.  How can a big and business community like Offa have only 150 policemen?. We need to take another look and do what will help Offa, Oro  and Omuaran back to business so that it won’t be only Ilorin that has active businesses “.
