Dangote Foundation Donates N120m Secondary School  In Lagos

Dangote Foundation has donated fully equipped secondary school in Lagos valued at N120 million.

 

The foundation also offered free tuition to 250 pupils whose parents were unable to pay the fees every year.

 

Mr Tony Chiejina, Head of Communication, Dangote Group, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Sunday.

 

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Group, said that the newly built school sited at Idi-Oro, Mushin, with equipped laboratories was in line with his educational empowerment programme.

 

He said this during the inauguration and handing over of the Nawair-Ud-Deen Comprehensive College building in Lagos.

 

“Aliko Dangote Foundation started in 1993 with the principle of ‘to whom much is given, much is expected’ and looking at the less privilege ones among us has compelled the foundation to provide some relief.

 

“The four major goal of Aliko Dangote Foundation are education, health and nutrition, economic empowerment and disaster relief,” he said.

 

He noted that his education mission was targeted at reducing the number of out of school children, supporting talented and underprivileged young children to achieve their full potential as well as educating girls and women on health-related issues.

 

Dangote said apart from the foundation donating the school building, it would sponsor 250 students whose parents were unable to afford the school fees yearly.

 

He said that the foundation had also provided a sound proof generator to ensure constant electricity and furniture for both teachers and the students.

“I have already authorised my foundation to come up with a strategic plan to implement a scholarship programme for desiring less privileged children in this community,” he said.

 

According to him, over the past five years, the foundation has spent over four billion naira in building of classrooms, scholarship programme, upgrading infrastructure across various universities and behavioral change communication programmes targeted at girls and women.

 

“We have just recently inaugurated the Dangote Business School in Kano, the only Business School in Nigeria that is well equipped.

 

“We will also be inaugurating similar projects in University of Ibadan. We have done quite a lot in the education system and we are looking to do more.

 

“Investing in the young people to us means, we are all working together to build a better Nigeria,” he said.

 

Dangote said that in preparing youths to proffer solutions to present challenges, he established the Dangote Academy in Kogi, which provide specialised training and management skills that would suit the various sectors of the economy.

 

He pledged his continued support to assist the government in its quest to provide quality education to the population toward securing a great future for the country.

 

Alhaji Ola Yussuff, Chairman, Nawair-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Lagos, commended Dangote for the donation.

 

Yussuff said that Dangote single-handedly opted to undertake the construction of the college building.

 

Yussuff said that the gesture aligns with Bill Gates recent call for human capital development in the country and with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nation.

 

He urged other Nigerians to emulate Dangote in donating toward educational and health programmes, to drive the country’s development and success of the SDG goals in Nigeria.
