The institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers Young Professionals (IEEE) says it is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health on infection prevention to strengthen government’s efforts at containing COVID-19 transmission in the country.

Mr John Adebayo, Chairman, IEEE, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday.

Adebayo, who reiterated the importance of strong partnership to addressing the containment of COVID-19, said it would also promote healthy initiatives in the country.

“On Sept. 14, the institute handed over 1,000 Posters containing key messages on prevention of COVID-19 and the Health check reporting Analytic Dashboard Platform (CaDP) to the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health as part of the 3-months ongoing collaboration.

“This support aims to strengthen government’s effort at containing COVID-19 transmission in the country since the confirmation of the first case on February 27, 2020.

“While appreciating government’s determination to flatten the curve and save life, the partnership was important to address the containment of COVID-19 and as well promote healthy initiatives,’’ he said.

The statement also quoted the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr Abdulaziz Abdullahi to have commended the organisation for supporting government’s effort towards the operationalisation of health promotion social media platform.

Abdullahi also commended them for the ongoing tracking of safe care seeking behaviour towards COVID-19 and other infectious and non-infectious diseases.

The permanent Secretary also appealed to Nigerians to imbibe safe care-seeking behaviours and visit the newly deployed Health check online platform www.hpd.health.gov to report health issues as this would assist the government to keep track of COVID-19, infectious and non-infectious disease.

IEEE is a technical professional organization committed to supporting government to meet its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target by the year 2030 through CaDP initiative.

IEEE and its members inspire a global community to innovate for a better tomorrow through its more than 423,000 members in over 160 countries with its highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

The project which was funded by the Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC), was carried out by the IEEEYP, Nigeria Section, chaired by Mr Haruna Gana and Chukwuemeka Okafor, the Young Professional Secretary.
