As part of the directive issued by the President Muhamadu Buhari to decongest correctional centres in Nigeria, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has free a total of one hundred and one inmates serving different terms at Oke-Kura maximum and Mandala medium custodian centres of the state.
Speaking during the release of the beneficiaries of this gesture, the State Comptroller of Correctional Service, Adebisi Francis, said that 83 among the inmates were released outrightly adding that the sentences of two among the inmate were also reduced while 16 inmates condemned to death were also reduced to life imprisonment.
He urged the freed inmates to always shun acts of criminality and pursue purposeful life and be useful to the society at large.
The head of the Correctional centre also explained that the state has given inmates the second chance expecting that they return these gesture by contributing their quotas to the society positively.
According to Francis, the freed inmates are those who had served 75 percent of their jail term and those who had challenges and the aged.
Adebisi, however, appreciated the governor for giving the freed inmates palliative that will aide their incorporation into the society.
One of the released inmates, Monday Francis, commended the state Governor for his magnanimity and prayed that God would guide and guard him in piloting the affairs of the state.
