Kwara state government has blamed the increase in number of persons positive to COVID-19 on the influx of people from Lagos and North – Western states into Ilorin, the state capital despite the ban on inter- state travels.

Speaking with newsmen during an inspection visit to the Sobi Specialist Hospital’s Isolation Centre in Ilorin Go,venor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made this known adding that 11 of the index cases at the isolation centre are travellers from Lagos and North- western states who were intercepted by security operatives deployed to enforece the ban on inter – state travels.

The governor who was at the centre to monitor health personnel’s compliance with safety protocols expressed delight that community transmission of COVID-19 is not a problem in Kwara.

He promised that the government would continue to mount surveillance to prevent travelers from gaining entrance into the state.

The governor who commended the security agencies for rising to the occasion urged them to do more in order to stop the spread of the disease in the state.

The team leader of the front line doctors treating COVID-19 patients in the state ,Dr Lambe Oladeji expressed satisfaction with the personal protection equipment (PPE) provided for them by the state government while assuring the governor of the commitment of the team to giving COVID-19 patient the best care.

Meanwhile Kwara state government said it has foiled attempt by some patients in the Isolation Centre to escape but for the  eagle eyes intelligence network around the centre which uncovered the plot by some COVID-19 patients.

In a release by Rafiu Ajakaye, the press secretary to the Gpovernor and secretary of the Covid 19 technical committee said that the patients who had sneaked into the state from neighboring state had attempted to escape from the  facility though they had  already scaled the fence.

The government expressed dismay that these persons were among the imported cases who intentionally violated the interstate lockdown and came into the state.

The government stated that Security has been further beefed up at our isolation centre. restates that COVID-19 is not a death sentence and there is no reason why anyone would want to escape and put their own lives and the lives of other people at risk.
